I originally found Andy Coates posting and wrote about it last 25th of May, and to be honest I wasn’t sure how it would go. I’ve been somewhat sceptical of link chains up until now but is seemed like quite a fun idea, and very different from all the other “meme’s” and “Chain Trains” I’d seen so far.

What has happened in the last 5 days?

The first thing I noticed was that I started getting incoming links showing up all the time on my wordpress dashboard. Everytime I logged on the latest links had changed. This of course meant my Technorati ranking was changing. Before Viralink and after more than 2 months blogging I was a 18 Authority blog and now wotZcool.com shows a 67 Authority level with a ranking of 70,187.

Not only have my Technorati rankings shot up, but also my actual page visits and comments have risen considerably. I’m not gonna kid anyone and say that everyone who has joined in and linked me have visited, but quite a few have.

After the first couple of days, and seeing things start to move, I decided to actively promote the Viralink idea by adding a button on my sidebar, and commenting on a few blogs I read about the scheme.

I have had confirmation from a few readers that they have posted a Viralink posting and joined, but in all cases they copied and posted from Andy’s original posting. I guess that everyone wanted to read the original posting before joining. Where as that is fine, and it generates me links, it isn’t the way a pyramid scheme should work.

So how does Viralink work and what should I do? You should copy from where you find out about Viralink, in this case if wotZcool is your source, copy from wotZcool and when I get pinged I add you to my Viralink grid. That doesn’t mean you can’t read Andy’s page or quote it, but always quote your original source and copy from there. Of course you only need to add to your Viralink grid the links that copy from your page, otherwise if everyone links from the original post, after 120 links it’s finished.

What happens if you link from a Viral chart thats almost full? A good question, because your posibilities of growing your grid and getting lots of linkbacks is small. Well all isn’t lost, you can add a couple more lines of asterisks and get loads more links.
