Segura Viudas - Creu de Lavit
Apr 10th, 2007 by Steve Sandells
Time for a spanish white, and Segura Viudas - Creu de Lavit is an excellent choice. A wine made wholly from the Xarel-lo grape variety originally from the Penedes region (south of Barcelona), and used in the production of Cava (sparkling champagne style wine). The Xarel-lo grapes which are estate grown and hand picked on 30-40 year old vines produce a very aromatic wine with good body and medium acidity.
I enjoy to drink this wine in spring and summer both to accompany salads, seafood and rice dishes, or to drink as an aperitif before a nice meal. I first found this wine at a gorgeous restaurant hidden amongst sand dunes about 15km from Valencia and whenever I get the chance it’s a must.

It’s inviting and refreshing with green apple and citrus fruit aromas with a touch of spice. In the mouth, the wine is bright and balanced with tangy grapefruit flavor cut by ripe pear and a hint of melon and white pepper, makes it an perfect choice to serve with a spicy southeastern Asian dish, such as grilled chicken with Thai chili sauce. It would also complement steamed mussels or clams in a garlic sauce.
You should be able to find this wine in the 15$ to 20$ price range, maybe expensive for a white wine, but I would say it’s well worth it.
