Liverpool FC, A Passion Of Mine
May 22nd, 2007 by Steve Sandells
If you’re not a football fan (Soccer to the North Americans) then you won’t understand what Liverpool Football Club and passion have in common. They are the most successful football club from England, and although they haven’t won the English league for 18 years they still hold the most League titles. They are also the english club with most european titles including 5 european championships.
I’m gonna add a Liverpool song to the sidebar in honour of “The Reds”
Two years ago they won what was probably the most exciting European Champions League final against Milan, coming back from 3-0 down at half time to finish 3-3 and go to extra time and eventually win 4-1 on penalties.
Well tomorrow almost two years to the day, the final will be repeated, the same two teams, this time meeting in Athens.
I was unable to get a ticket for the final, which was probably a good thing as getting to Athens would have been an oddissy with flight prices from 800 € upwards and all hotels being sold out.
Tomorrow at this time I’ll be nervously watching the game although now we’ll be into the second half.
There are plenty of similtudes between the game in Istambul and both teams have had a difficult root to the final, but this final will be special, with Milan wanting revenge. Can those thoughts of getting their own back be positive for Milan or will they turn out to be a weight on their shoulders that they can’t carry?
Some of the Milan players have definately undermined Liverpools quality making statements about Liverpool being stuck in a timewarp and playing 1980’s football. I don’t think they’ve really been watching Liverpool games this season. They have been playing high tempo, high pressure football with a strong midfield and fast wingers who cross to the T.
I was able to visit the Nou Camp in the last 16 finals when we played Barcelona, the actual champions, and we out played them beating them 1-2, with some tremendous passing football mixed with pressure and closing the ball down.
“Come on Liverpool”
Lets make it 6
