Joost For Friends
May 10th, 2007 by Steve Sandells
A few days ago I found out that Joost had opened it’s doors a little wider allowing actual Joost Beta users to invite their friends so as they could also try it out. I’d read quite a lot about Joost and was intrigued to seeing how it worked, checking the content and seeing how good quality the picture was.
I often use some other online tv programmes basically to follow my favourite soccer club, Liverpool, as I don’t get much live english football on TV here. Mostly I use a programme called Sopcast which streams hundreds of channels, mainly from Asia but even though I don’t speak Chinese or Korean, I do get to see the games live with a pretty decent picture. Other programmes that work with differing degrees of success are TvAnts, PPStream, PPLive or TVKoo to name a few.
Now, Joost is completely different from Sopcast. Firstly it’s not a real TV streamer, it’s more like a programme library where you can choose the channel and then the programme or episode you want to watch at the time you decide. For my liking the amount of channels, content and quality of content available is still very much lacking. Hopefully that will get better as they bring on more sources. If they don’t better the content side of things then I can see Joost being a flash in the pan.
As far as picture quality is concerned I have to say that it is by far the best video streaming software I’ve seen to date. So lets hope they bring the content available to a similar level, and then Joost will be a winner.
If anyone would like to receive an invite from me, then please leave me a message and I’ll gladly send you a link.
