John Chow’s Linkback put to the test.

The offer to get a linkback from one of the most popular blog’s on the net is a good one, but I wonder how much traffic that will actually generate. So hence my posting. Once my link is posted in one of his batches I’ll update on how my traffic increases, or not 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after posting. I reckon that beyond that timescale any beneficial effects will have peaked and died due to the posting dropping down the page. He generally posts between 2 and 4 posts per day, so any post is only on the first page for upto 72 hours.
It’s easy to see what you can get out of reviewing his site but John’s “evil scheme” is very much a tool used by John to increase is technorati ratings and hence help to better his PageRank number. Currently he is PageRanked 6 so his blog is becoming more and more valuable and I’m sure this is helped very much so by his Review offer.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticising John for this, it’s something he’s very cleverly schemed and is working. So far he’s posted 60 batches of 10 Review backlinks. Thats 600 reviews he’s received. With 2 links per review, thats 1200 Links he’s got but also 600 linkbacks he’s given.
I have posted a few times links to different blog’s without requesting any linkbacks, leaving that to the mentioned blog, but rarely do they link to you. Quite often bloggers become very selfish and only want links to increase their rankings but don’t give and love back. So in this sense John is being very generous. No name naming here, if you have linked back, thank you, if not, then you know who you are.
Not only this, but you can find a whole load of information about blogging in general, making money online, product reviews, affiliate marketing, adsense, etc….. oh and some great Chinese Cuisine. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it was an article about John Chow in a spanish newspaper that got me interested in blogging, so thanks John.

What I did was set up a link swap on my blog to trade links with other bloggers. It’s been working great. Most people want to exchange links but it’s hard to know how to go about it.
I think some bloggers want a whole lot for a simple link back. I can’t believe that some people set out guidelines with how many words your review of their blog should be etc. I don’t think so, lol. Some of these blogs don’t even have great rankings, I just don’t get it.
