Google Adsense
Apr 6th, 2007 by Steve Sandells
I first applied to Adsense about a week ago, thinking that my blog was now online and that I could start including ads. Of course at this point I’d spent money registering my domain, signed up to a web hosting company and I’d registered my site on various search engines. I thought it was all fine and I was ready. But I wasn’t.
After about 48 hours I received an email from Adsense thanking me for my application but turning down my site. The reasons they gave me were that my site was under construction and that some of the links didn’t work.
I had 2 options, fix my page links and try and make it look more attractive and finished or start from scratch. I opted for the second choice.
First of all I looked around wordpress for a new attractive theme. Once I found a theme layout I liked it was a case of personalising it. Changing colours, photos, text styles etc.
Two days later I was quite happy with the outcome and decided to re-apply. 48 hours later I was accepted and could start to add Google ads to my site.
I’ve not added too much, only two blocks so far, but after only 24 hours of ads on my page I’ve finally received my first click and my account now shows a massive 0.18$
Ok, I’m a long way short of getting my costs back, let alone making money but it’s really satisfying to see an amount in my account. I’ve finally started the ball rolling and from now on I can only start to earn more and more.
At the end of the month I’ll post my earnings and month by month we’ll all be able to see how things develop.
Happy Easter everyone, I’ll be back after the weekend.
PS. If you haven’t signed up for google ads then there is a button on the right hand sidebar just below my photo.

Hi Steve. Welcome to the world of blogging. Your site looks good so far - just remember that all good things come in time. Persevere, write quality content, and you’ll win readers.
I have one suggestion for your site: implement a search engine-friendly URL structure. By doing so, the address to each of your site’s pages will make logical sense to both the reader and the search engine spiders. Here’s some more information on the topic: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/seo-friendly-url-structure/4556/
Tom,
Thanks for visiting and your kind words. Also thanks for your suggestion. I took a look and will try and implement your advice as it looks quite sound. I did try it immediatly but for some reason all my links stopped working and I had to backtrack, so I will have another go later and see if I can fix the problems.
Once again thanks.
You need to make your .htaccess file writable.
