Good Spanish Wines
Apr 5th, 2007 by Steve Sandells
I’ve decided to add a new category about Spanish Wines. I’m very lucky to live in Spain and to be able to enjoy many of it’s fabulous attributes. The great weather, warm people, good food and of course excellent wines.
I’m also very fortunate through my job as a purchasing manager for a supermarket chain to be able to try many of the best wines available at business lunches.
I’ve decided that it would be good to share these treasures as and when I find them.
Recently I found an excellent red wine from the Ribera Del Duero region called Pago De Carraovejas Reserva 2003.
This fine wine, aged in french and american oak barrels for 24 months prior to bottelling is a blend of 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 75% Tinto Fino grape varieties. An excellent wine to accompany red meat and game. Now I’m no wine tasting expert, basically I know when I like it o not, but according to experts it has a complex aroma of matured fruit with hints of coffee, cocoa, nuts and spices. Tastey and fruity with hints of fine wood.
I guess a price guide is hard to make as wine is quite cheaper in Spain compared to other countries I know, but this isn’t in the low price bracket as in a Restaurant it can cost between 60 and 75 euros the bottle.
A wine well worth drinking, and one I often choose when I find it on the wine list. Highly recomended.
